WHAT CAN I DO?

When reading about climate change, air pollution, deforestation or nuclear waste, one begins to wonder if individuals can positively influence climate change. The answer is absolutely.  Below are some examples of the lifestyle changes people can make that result in carbon dioxide reduction. Some are quite easy to do:

  1. Replacing one regular light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb will save 70 kilograms of carbon dioxide per year.
  2. You can save 1,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide every year by recycling just half of your household waste.
  3. Use less hot water by washing your clothes in cold or warm instead of hot water. This results in approximately 230 kilograms of carbon dioxide saved per year.
  4. Turn your thermostat down 2 degrees in winter and up 2 degrees in summer saves 900 kilograms of carbon dioxide per year.
  5. By turning off your television, DVD player, stereo, and computer, when you’re not using them, over 900 kilograms of carbon dioxide will be saved per year.
